𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗔𝗙 𝗣𝘂𝗺𝗽𝗸𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗶𝗲 🥧
So healthy it doesn’t have to be Thanksgiving to eat it. (And it also makes a great breakfast 😋)
My dad has a sweet tooth and I made this for my him when he was recovering from surgery. He didn’t even notice it’s:
𝗚𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗻-𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲, 𝗦𝘂𝗴𝗮𝗿-𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲, 𝗗𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘆-𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲, 𝗘𝗴𝗴-𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲, 𝗜𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁-𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲! (jk on that last one, just seeing if you were paying attention 😉)
Instead, this recipe is:
𝘗𝘶𝘮𝘱𝘬𝘪𝘯-𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭, 𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘷𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘧𝘶𝘭, 𝘫𝘰𝘺𝘧𝘶𝘭.
Ingredients & Directions for each:
🔸½ cup coconut flour
🔸½ cup almond flour
🔸¼ tsp sea salt
🔸1 dash of stevia (optional)
🔸3 flax eggs (or 2 large eggs) (3 tbsp flax seeds mixed with 6 tbsp water, let sit for 5-10 min until gelatinous)
🔸¼ cup coconut oil, slightly melted
1. Mix altogether, getting rid of any lumps.
2. In an 8 or 9 inch pie plate, press the dough evenly around the bottom & sides.
🔸1 + ½ cans of pumpkin puree (unsweetened)
🔸¼ cup maple syrup
🔸⅓ cup unsweetened plain almond milk
🔸3 tbsp arrowroot powder (or sorghum flour, or cornstarch)
🔸2 flax eggs (2 tbsp ground flax, mixed with 4 tbsp water, let sit for 5-10 min until gelatinous)
🔸2 tsp pumpkin pie spice (cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, clove)
🔸¼ tsp sea salt
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
2. Mix all the filling ingredients in a bowl. Pour the filling into the pie crust.
3. Bake for 60 - 70 min.
4. Let cool before eating

FULL MOON IN ARIES
Tomorrow’s full moon is FULL ON, and I've got two mantras to help you through it - keep reading 🔻!
Aries is a fire sign and rules the head. It's why you might be feeling like this right now: 🤯
Or... partially why. In addition:
Mars, a fiery planet that's retrograde in Aries right now, is squaring Saturn - MEANING: You want to go forward but you're being forced to slow down. It's like trying to hit the gas pedal with the brakes on. 🤦♀️
Inside the body, this stop and go energy inside inside us, from a Chinese medicine standpoint, stagnates the Liver qi - MEANING: it creates pent up frustration & heat which does all sorts of un-fun things to the body: headaches, muscle tension, sore necks, etc.
The energy has to go somewhere, and if it can't go where you want it to go today due to circumstances beyond your control, instead: do some cardio exercise, shout in your pillow, punch the air, cry, or dance like nobody's watching (even if they are) 💃🏼
And now... your MANTRAS:
1) “I check my ego at the gate."
2) “Patience...(aaaaand more patience)."
You may not love these mantras 🤣[I made no promises that this would feel good 😉]
If you're a human, you have an ego. It's not a bad thing. But an ego that's too big or two small isn't in highest service of yourself nor others. Having an honest and balanced relationship with the ego is what we’re especially called to do right now.
And transits aren't all 'bad'. Positive aspects of this one include:
It can spark ACTION. The urge to DO something - to work though some of the themes that have been plaguing you this last month.
And if you're someone who has a hard time speaking up for yourself (ie ego too small) then you might get that surge of energy to speak up or assert your boundaries.
Personally, I always feel so much better during full moons than new moons. With the moon the ruler of my cart, a full moon seems to give me a burst of creative energy that I love.

Letting go can be hard. Or beautiful.
Letting go can be about moving towards 𝘳𝘦𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 - a benefic quality of the 𝘔𝘦𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 and the Fall season, according to Chinese medicine.
𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙘𝙖𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙡𝙚𝙩 𝙜𝙤 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙀𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙣𝙤𝙭?
It could be material things, Marie Kondo style.
...with the astro transits* over this Equinox, what may become apparent are 𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭-𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴. Not just fear, anxiety or melancholy - but rumination therein. Incessant mental chatter. Like spam in our mental 'inbox'!
Not only does this mental clutter prevent us from feeling our best, but in Chinese medicine this rumination, or over-worrying, can damage the Spleen qi and create digestive issues such as bloating and lethargy.
On an external level, our negative self-talk or incessant worries will ultimately impact our behaviour. And with the placement of the planet Mars this month as well, we must be extra mindful in our words & actions.
So: My Equinox challenge to you (I will do it too, of course!) this week:
🍁Witness your mental emotional state with gentleness, self-compassion, and grace.
🍁If similar thoughts, fears, anxieties repeat themselves, write them down. Thank them. And let them go.
🍁If you want to get a little extra woo, write them on a fallen leaf. If there are more than one, collect several leaves and write on each. Then return them to the earth.
Intentions need to be backed up by actions; that's integration ✅ 👍🏽
Another way to integrate is acupuncture. See your acupuncturist (I happen to know one 😉) and say your intentions aloud, and allow the session to work with you. There are some badass acupoints for helping to set these intentions in motion, embodying your journey.

It’s early in the week, but 𝘐’𝘮 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘪𝘵: I’m getting philosophical 🤯!

I was inspired recently watching a lecture by Edward Neal, an MD & 𝙉𝙚𝙞𝙟𝙞𝙣𝙜 (𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘰𝘰𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘊𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘮𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘯𝘦) Practitioner.
He uses the 𝘕𝘦𝘪𝘫𝘪𝘯𝘨 to explain that 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 - 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲, 𝗶𝗻 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆.
In our lives, we tend to focus most on the manifestations themselves: Some we enjoy because they are 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 (i.e. shelter, love). Some cause us suffering because they are 𝘪𝘯𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 (i.e: headaches, tumors).

Shine the light there, and use Saturn’s disciplined energy & wisdom to set systems in place to help you learn and grow successfully in this area. The harsh truth: This is supposed to take time, despite feeling impatient with it all and perhaps facing obstacles as you go along.
The way through: For the impatient energy, do some physical movement (not reckless but physical) to help release that. This will help you can stay focused on doing the work - sustainably.
The plus side: Though it may feel intense, it’s also exciting. You are getting the growth you need, working towards your Warrior Certification in this area of life. 💪🏽
Lastly: Take some deep breaths. Slow down, remember the long-game approach to sustain the drive to the finish line. Trust the process. Warriors can be gentle on themselves and others. True strength is cultivated by nurturing within.

This year has brought 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 to a whole new level. Since returning to Toronto after some family matters this spring, I’ve been lighting a candle every morning.
This 𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘆 𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 is to bring light to my inner work. It calls in the Fire element, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘩𝘦𝘯 (the spirit of the heart in Chinese Medicine) to help me show up the best I can - in myself (where it starts), my work, my relationships, and the world around me.
Being asked (somedays forced!) to recalibrate, reprioritize, dig deep into the dark isn’t easy. But we can bring light to that dark. What the Shen, the Fire element of summer, really wants is 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 & 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.

“𝗟𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿”. It’s a 𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘰𝘯 in Chinese Medicine commonly associated with the last 2 weeks of summer, but few people know that it was traditionally applied to the last 2 weeks of each season. It’s about 𝘥𝘪𝘨𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, about 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙨 before the next transition or phase. It benefits us to eat well, supporting our digestive organs - the ‘Spleen’ (pancreas) & Stomach.
Many are preparing for back to school in Sept, so I thought I’d share a recipe that’s great to have on hand if you need a quick breakfast or snack that the whole fam will enjoy - and is super healthy, too!
𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗠𝘂𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗻𝘀
🔸1/3 cup unsweetened cranberries
🔸1/3 cup pumpkin seeds (or sub: sunflower seeds, sesame seeds or coconut flakes - or some of each!)
🔸1 ¼ cup grated zucchini
🔸2 cups grated carrot
🔸4 tsp. grated ginger
🔸1 cup unsweetened shredded coconut
🔸¼ cup maple syrup or honey
🔸¼ cup unsweetened apple sauce
🔸3 eggs or sub 3 flax “eggs”
🔸2 tsp. vanilla extract
🔸½ cup coconut oil melted
🔸¼ cup unsweetened plain nut milk (eg almond or coconut)
🔸1 ½ cups almond flour
🔸½ cup g/f flour (I like oat flour, or chickpea flour for extra protein)
🔸2 tsp. Cinnamon
🔸1 tsp. baking powder
🔸¼ tsp. baking soda
🔸½ tsp. salt
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Line muffin tin(s) with 15 paper liners (or use silicone muffin cups)
3. In a large bowl, combine flours, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda, salt. Whisk to combine.
4. In a 2nd large bowl, combine zucchini, carrot, and ginger. Mix in the eggs, coconut oil, maple syrup, apple sauce, cranberries & seeds and vanilla. Mix just until combined.
5. Carefully mix 1/2 of dry ingredients into the wet. Then add nut milk and mix just until combined. Add remaining dry ingredients.
6. Divide the batter into the muffin cups.
7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until knife inserted in the middle comes out clean. After removing from the oven, cool in muffin tin for 3-5 minutes. Then remove muffins from the tin and continue to cool on a cooling rack.

We’re in the thick of summer now. The heat is 𝘏𝘌𝘙𝘌. In Chinese Medicine, it’s the yang within yang season, bringing us abundance of daylight, energy, activity. Some people love it - but if you’ve got too much constitutional heat, it can be a tough season.
In TCM it’s the season of 🔥. At the same time, astrologically we’ve got Mars in Aries - which is also pure 🔥🔥🔥.
Fire can be a wonderful, 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘤𝘦. It can also destruct. Use your fire wisely. Keep it in balance as best you can.
TCM Summer 2020 tips:
☀️ Drink: cucumber water
☀️ Eat: Watermelon slices
☀️ Avoid: greasy foods, excess hot spices, refined sugar
☀️ Enjoy tea: Peppermint, Green tea or Matcha
☀️ Find: Nature, shade, trees, flowers
☀️ Play: Activities that spark joy
☀️ Wear: A mask! They’re uncomfortable & hot - I get it! But we don’t want to be back on lockdown during the heat of summer. Work: together on this, so we can enjoy being outside and participating in (some) of the activities that we have long awaited for ✌️🙏🏽 😷

One of the bright sides of the world unravelling has been that I’ve had more time at home to prepare meals for myself where I can spend extra time on the presentation - as I’ll be eating it at home, too! I often pack / carry both lunches & dinners with me on my work days. So this has brought some joy.
Having said this, I want to also recognize there are many people who are unable to provide afford food for themselves/their family at this time, and encourage if you have a few bucks to support one of our location food banks (I recently made a donation to @feedontario but there are others like The Stop or Daily Bread).
